The iron takes forever to heat up. The steam is barely there even on "high" volume. I had a Rowenta before this and it was 100% better. The iron shuts down way too soon and then you have to wait forever for it to heat up again. A total waste of money!

Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Steamer Review

I think this machine is great. First off, it's nice and compact. Your able to hide the power cord underneath the base of the unit, the hose easily wraps around the top portion and the head of the steamer slides into place so it's not dangling off the unit. Included in the box is astorage bag for your attachments, so you don't lose them. I used this just last night to steam a sueded slip cover for a couch that's been in a bag for over 2 years and it worked like a dream, it took out every wrinkle. It heated up very quickly and produced enough steam to get out any wrinkle. It did get a tad hot around the head of the steamer if you kept your hand there too long, also it makes a gurgling noise as it heats up, but that dissipates after it's up and running. Other than that, it's a great item. I would totally buy another one. If I may dispense some advice (I worked in retail for several years and worked with professional steamers on a daily basis. If you have light garments like silks, cover the steamer head with a knee hi or stocking to protect the garment from oversteaming whatever elements are in the water and always steam from the inside of your garment - never on the outside. Rowenta is a really good name and usually produce good quality items. I almost didn't buy this because of some of the reviews. I guess you take a chance on everything you buy.

Conair GS4 Compact Fabric Steamer Review

I spent several months researching garment steamers and could not decide which one I wanted - price vs. quality and which brand was best etc. So I decided to buy an inexpensive one and see if I liked it. Well... I love it and I'm so happy I didn't spend $200 on one either!
I took my 20% off coupon to Linens and Things and was able to compare several models side by side and CAUTION!!! the much more expensive Sharper Image model is the EXACT same as this one just a different color! As far as I could tell, this table top model was the same as the pro models but without the extension pole and with a smaller water tank - I mean, how long are you going to be steaming anyway?
When I got it home, it was easy to assemble - just stick the hose in, fill it up with water and turn it on. It took a few minutes - actually I realized I hadn't been paying attention and filled it way past the max fill line - ooops - but it still never overflowed or leaked. As soon as the water started boiling, it began to put out a lot of very hot steam. I was a bit worried that the hose was too stiff but once the steam started flowing, it became very flexible.
For all the people that did not like the short poles on the more expensive models, the over the door hanger was perfect. The steam handle hangs on it and it is a much better design for long pants or dresses.
I steamed a pair of curtains, a bed skirt, my comforter (still on the bed), a shower curtain, and a pilgrim outfit. I ran the steamer for about 30 min. and when I stopped, the water level had just made it down to the max line. My biggest problem was that I ran out of things to steam! I was having so much fun watching the wrinkles disappear from all my stuff!! I did steam my hand once or twice at first but I quickly figured out how to stop doing that!
I got this steamer for just under $25 and I couldn't be happier!

Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron Review

My wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago.Well, that one didn't have the dual voltage switch and when we were in Europe, we basically fried it (our fault - we thought the converter would work with it, but apparently not).Anyway, we replaced it with this model last fall.Big mistake.The first thing I noticed is this one is made in Mexico, the old one was made in Germany.Also much cheaper quality - the parts, the fit and finish.We turned it on and it never heated up.Took it back and brought #2 home.This one heated up, got so hot that it emitted a scary smell (like when you clean an oven) and the plastic cover plate got too hot to the touch.Based on reading the manual and the website, I don't think this is supposed to happen.At any rate, we were never able to get it to emit steam, no matter how long we waited or how much we pressed the button.Back to the store to exchange it for #3.This time we made the clerk try it out to see if it was just us.It wasn't.None of the store personnel were able to get it to work.When they gave us a new one, I asked them to try it as well.Same result.They had to open yet another new one out of the box (we're up to #4 now, if you're still trying to keep count) which worked.Admittedly I was pretty leery at this point, but we were leaving on a trip in less than a week and they stocked no other steamer models.So I took it home and it went with us to Japan.Worked fine the first few times, but after about a week of travel it began to fall apart.Now it leaks profusely and the steam output is about half what it once was.I contacted Rowenta but the hassle to box this thing up, send it to the service center in San Diego, etc. is just not worth it to me.Needless to say, I am through with buying Rowenta.

I bought this iron just about a year ago, probably a little under a year, used it every day, and it was great until last week.The vertical steam function was nice, as was the adjustable steam level.A while ago the cord reel function stopped working well; the reel would only retract about half the cord and just stop.This was inconvenient, especially since one of the selling points is a retractable cord, but not enough to make me go looking for a new iron.Last week out of nowhere the steam function stopped working altogether (vertical, horizontal, various heat/steam settings, etc), so I'm had to use a 4-year old B&D which, while not as nice, worked.This was a nice iron, but even though it was relatively cheap it should have lasted more than a year.

ROWENTA AUTO-STEAM IRON CORD REEL AIRGLIDE S/S S.PLATE Review

Within a month of owning this which I bought in late 2006, the front water fill section became detached. The plastic designed to hold it in refused to hold the section in unless I turned it to no stream.I already threw away the original box so I just lived with it.Also, the retractable cord whips me if I don't pay attention. I also wish they made the dial easier to turn (a little larger would be better).

June 2008, the iron began to stain my shirts periodically. I cleaned the unit quarterly but I was not expecting an expensive iron go bad after less an two years in use.

August 2008 update: I threw it away.

Try a less expensive brand so when two years comes around you can afford to just replace it.

Smartek Travel Iron Review

I bought this relatively inexpensive travel Iron for my trip through Europe. I tested it at home and it was ok. I got to Europe and switched to the European voltage and it got so hot so quickly that I almost burned myself. The controls dont work very well. It either gets way too hot or not hot enough. While I will agree that cordless is a great feature for an iron that's the only good thing this one has going for it.I had trouble with this iron dripping water while ironing with the steam off as well as dripping water just moving it from the base to the fabric on the board.When steaming it kept spitting out this white gritty like sand.I thought it may be just because it was new from the factory but after lots of steaming it still continues to do it.It also releases this stuff when you jiggle the iron.It could be that I just got a lemon but I can't recommend this iron.

After years of use and finally wearing out my last Black & Decker Quick 'n Easy iron, I bought this newer model right away. Let's just say this is a genuine case of "they sure don't make 'em like they used to!". I realize this is very reasonably priced, however, it has so many shortcomings, you really should give a lot of thought to another model. The blue cover over the water holder is translucent - you cannot tell how much, if any, water you have in the iron unless your lighting is super bright and shining at just the right angle. However, the worst defect is that the iron just decides unpredictably to soak whatever you are ironing. So if you need something ironed to wear in a hurry - do not use the steam feature... OR have a blow dryer handy - you'll need it!

Home Touch PS-200 Perfect Steam Commercial Garment Steamer Review

(Updating my review after 6 mos of use.) I've found the Homemedics PS-200 "Perfect Steam" has been fine for all types of clothing.This is the smallest, value-priced model, so I wouldn't expect it have enough steam for thick upholstery or to press creases and folds (It's upright.Commercial steamers don't do this either without a flat surface! They're for removing wrinkles- not pressing clothes.)I bought it to use instead of a steam iron- and for the same price, it's faster and easier.It has worked for denim jeans, suits, blankets, wrinkled khakis and dress shirts.Read the manual for tips- it helps to have the pole all the way up.When the hose starts to gurgle, water is condensing in the hose.Just hold the hose straight up and let the water drip back into the tank.The manual says this is normal and the condensation does not affect the steam.I find it's ready in 15 seconds!Also, steam runs consistently when the clothing is hung higher than the pole- meaning I have to hang clothing from the top of a door frame or shower rod.The hose is long enough to reach but (obviously) the pole could have been made to extend a foot taller.It's small enough to fit inside my tiny closet.Distilled water is a must in Colorado.The water does need to be emptied out after each use or else mildew/mold will form.You may have to lift and tip the unit over a sink and shake the hose to completely empty.I was expecting much less for the price and was pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, I needed a spare iron for quick de-wrinkling sessions at my girlfriend's place.(I live out of a duffle bag when I'm there and she doesn't own an iron!)I own a top-o-the-line B&D iron which I love, so I went for this inexpensive "younger cousin."

Bottom line:I recommend it.Once it gets going (a couple of minutes tops), it really whoooshes out the steam!I fill it up, crank it up, and use it for Dockers and Timberland cotton shirts.The steam blows through so well I only have to do one side!It's a time-saving wrinkle killer!

As for finesse jobs on other fabrics, I couldn't tell you.But for hammering out wrinkles in cotton, it's great.I recommend it and it's so inexpensive, you can't go wrong.

Italsteam Light Weight Travel Steam Iron - Dual Voltage Review

I bought one from a mall kiosk. Problems: (1) black water will get on your clothes if you are not careful to rinse it out each time. (2) You have to refill it 2 or 3 times for each shirt. (3) The unit gets very hot and if you are not careful to only touch the handle, you will get burned. (4) It takes more power the more salt you put in it. It would dim my lights and it can easily blow a fuse.

Black & Decker F975 Light 'N Easy Iron, Blue Review

This iron is used 2-3 times a month.The heat up time is about a minute long.The steam is sometimes intermittent, but, when present, is in good quantity.The "balance" of the iron is odd, if you can imagine the palm of your hand in the handle, it sits well behind the middle of the heat plate - a slightly awkward feel so far.I have even thought of chalking this one up to experience, and going to a store to "feel" the models, and get another one. (The long cord is nice)The iron does finally heat up, and glide over clothes, steaming a nice crease.(My "old" black and decker was just fine, maybe I just hate change!)

My experience with a Shark iron only lasted three months, and now, suddenly, half of the water from the reservoir comes rushing out the bottom of the iron.I'm really tired of owning irons (no matter the brand) for only three months.If the Rowenta iron I just bought works out for longer than that, I'll write a positive review for them.

T-Fal FV4376 1700 Watts UltraGlide Steam Iron with Easycord Review

I saw this at a wholesale club(cheaper) and bought it after being unhappy with a recent Black& Decker. This iron feels like it is named ..."ultra glide". I had an older Black&Decker that was top of the line with a non stick plate. It finally died after ten years so I bought another non stick Black& Decker. I found the new black and decker to be poorly made and it had issues with sticking and getting starch build up that needed cleaning often. When I saw this T-Fal, I was taken back by the unusual plate surface. It had more holes for steam on the bottom than the black and decker, and almost a glass like appearance on the plate. It is very different from any other iron I have used as it feels like it is just sliding across a shirt. As a result, the fabric tends to straighten easier as you go along and as a result, you don't get accidental creasing as easily while ironing. This makes ironing quicker and less of a chore. This is a huge improvement over other irons as it really is an "ultra glide". The steam works well. I think this is a great home iron and this product is a game changer based on its non stick plate. My only gripe is the tempature setting is a dial and it should be a digital tempature setting.

My title says it all.I have never been so tempted to hurl an appliance across the room as I am when using this iron!It has a shut-off feature which kicks in after 8 minutes of non-use.Sounds like a great idea, but it never knows when to turn itself back on!It's supposed to have an internal motion sensor so that when you pick it back up, it starts reheating again.That RARELY happens though.I have stood there shaking the heck out of this thing, up and down, side to side, in a circle, mid-air figure 8s...nothing works!I tried turning it off, then on again, but to no avail. The only way I seem to be able to get it to acknowledge my presence is to unplug it and plug it back in. What a pain in the butt!And then this morning, the final straw.Right in the middle of ironing, I meanACTIVELY ironing my pants, and the damn thing shuts itself off!It gives me the 5 little warning beeps and then starts cooling down.So not only are my pants still wrinkly, now they're also streaked with water dripping from the iron!This thing has one more time to mess with me and it's gonna find itself in a crumpled heap out on the curb!Oh and if you're wondering why I gave it 2 stars if I hate it so much, it's because when it DOES work (and that ain't often!) it will definitely knock the wrinkles out of whatever you're ironing, FAST! However, if you value your time in the least, look elsewhere and don't waste it on this clunker!!!

I bought an IronMaven in November 09 after burning out my third $100 steam iron in 3 years. My husband and I are employed professinals and I do all my own ironing. I wanted an iron that could melt the make up off my face and that would last. This product delivers. I have been using it for 3 months before writing this review. This unit is well made and has heft. It has a tank that holds water and I put it on the end of the ironing board. The iron itself is smaller than the other irons I have had, but this is good. You can get into the tight spots on clothes easier. It has a cork covered handle that is easy to grip. It produces so much steam that your ironing goes quicker. Shirts look better than when done by professional shirt service. You do need extra padding on the iron board to avoid grid marks coming through- I just put two covers on the board and eliminated this problem. It takes about 10 minutes for the unit to warm up and produce steam. When the tank is full you can steam about 40 minutes without a refill on water. The only downside to this unit is that if you needed the full length of the ironing board, you have to put the tank somewhere close. The cord from the iron to the tank is only about 3 feet long. I would buy this unit if you like lots of steam and do all your own ironing.

Hamilton Beach 14560T Steam Storm Iron Review

This is the worst iron I have ever used. From the get-go, the soleplate on this iron not only stuck to everything, but left marks on all of my clothes! Keep in mind, this happened on all settings, with all fabrics. I thought the heat was too high, but even on low settings this happened and the clothes were left all wrinkled. After attempting to iron w/this iron, I had to re-wash many pieces of clothing - due to the marks it left. I have never seen a small appliance make life so much harder on an average, everyday chore - like I have with this klunker. This totally rates an -F
