This is a great all-purpose pot to have for baking beans, obviously, but also for slow oven baked dishes like ragouts, choucroute garnis, cassoulets and is the classic vessel for nabes, those layered one-pot Japanese meals. It makes a great soup tureen as it holds heat very well and an wonderful off-beat use for it is as a leprechaun's pot to hold the peanut butter-filled butterscotch-coated Ritz cracker cookie "gold coins" that I make for St. Patrick's Day.

I've read great reviews about this steamer and poor reviews.The poor reviews claim that the unit did not work.The great reveiws report claims of great steam fast, just like the Good HouseKeeping seal.I figured that if I bought the unit from Amazon, I could always return it if I was unsatisfied.I like to steam my clothes.I have a Jiffy portable unit for travel and home.I wanted to get a full size unit for home use.This unit is great.It heats up fast (less than a minute).Be sure to hold the trigger and wait.It is not a passive steamer.A pump activates to provide a nice flow of steam.This unit has a water filter.It slides into the drain plug on the bottom of the unit.In the package you will receive information about accessories.I called the support company, Top Innovations and ordered a few extra supplies.I ordered two extra water filters (for $2.99 each) and also a A-465-K1 Accessory Kit.This kit has an entirely separate hose and nossle with various attachments.This will allow me to steam clean counters, stove, tile.I want it to clean the interior floors of my vehicles after the winter.I hope this information helps.If you are considering a home unit with fast steam, a water filter and available accessories, then this may be the model for you.Michael from Johnstown, Pennsylvania

This iron is the best all around iron on the market today.I don't say that lightly either.It does pull more power with it's heavy duty electric cord, I expect my electric bill will go up slightly now that I use this exclusively on my fabrics..... Rowenta Commercial Garment Steamer Review

After a bit of a slow start I figured out that if I nuge the tank an air buble cames up and the water goes into the heating unit and out comes the steam. Once I got going the steam was flowing easily and the wrinkles came out of my suit beautifully! I was impressed with the over all ease of use and how nice my suits looked when I was finished. Only one warning, the hose gets VERY HOT! It does have a cool touch handle but the hose is very hot! Do not use around small children.

SteamFast SF-420 Contemporary Fabric Steamer Review

I ordered Sunday afternoon, it arrived Tuesday, which was fantastic, but the spray nozzle was missing so not happy. It was July 3 so I didnt get rep from manufacturer til 2 days later.The company was great, sent part right away, no problems from them.The steamer however was a huge dissappointment.The steam "meandered" out, was not forceful nor plentiful in the least, after 5 minutes in one small area of a blouse the wrinkles remained.Tried leaving steamer on for over 15 minutes to "heat up" and work up more steam, no go.It is an ok product quality wise and the company was responsive, it just didnt perform well at all.Returned product.

Oliso Touch and Glide Iron Review

Wow! Could not believe negative review on this iron....I am a quilter and sewer and use this iron daily.I HIGHLY recommend this iron.I absolutely LOVE not having to place it on its end each time I have to adjust my fabric.Really takes stress off of my wrists and for my purposes, the feet on this iron make it a much more SAFE and STEADIER iron.Not sure how this iron would fall off an ironing board (as the other reviewer states).... any other iron is more likely to fall over / off and has higher potential for burning incidents due to having to be placed on its end.The on / off function has NEVER failed and while quilting, I leave it on for hours at a time.The water reservoir is easy to refill and the VISIBILITY is a plus!(I recommend against using tap water due to mineral build up - use bottled water only). I am on my second one after 4 years ONLY due to my having purchased the non-stick version and it wearing off due to high usage.Have to add that my husband - who insists on ironing his own shirts - LOVES this iron also.

I abhore ironing and will wear wrinkly clothes before involving myself in such a mundane chore.I decided to read up on fabric steamers and read all of the reviews on this site for all of the brands.Since this is my first steamer I decided on purchasing one in a mid-price range because I wanted something a tad sturdier than the smaller models.The base width is nice and the wheels are large giving me the ability to move it around wherever I want. The pole is not tall enough in my opinion (a common thread I see in many reviews).I found myself sitting in a chair beside it to steam my clothing.If you are looking for that stiff starched look then this isn't for you but if you want to get dressed quickly in the morning with minimal wrinkles then you may like this model.The steam started up pretty quick and it was easy to catch on to the techniques suggested in the manual. Black & Decker S520 Quickpress Spray Iron Review

We bought this iron because it seemed like a decent choice for the price. However, after having it three years (and using it very rarely), it began to break down and we now have to throw it away. The non-stick coating on the iron plate is unpeeling, which turns into little black balls on your clothes as you iron (not nice on a dress shirt). Also, when I press the steam button, rusty water comes out of the steam holes, staining the clothes. They must have used parts on the inside that rust over time. Spend a little more money and get a better iron - it saddens me to have to fill the landfill with poorly-produced junk like this.

This is a great iron. No, really, it is! Produces lots of steam, nice stainless steel plate, all controls are simple and user friendly. I only gave it 4 stars because the spout where you pour the water in is really small, so it's kinda tricky to fill with water without spilling some. Also you do have to put some elbow grease into stubborn wrinkles in a heavy fabric like denim. But, this iron does not leak water, steams well, and of course, you just can't beat the Amazon price!

Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer Iron Review

This is the best iron I have ever used.It literally irons in half the time compared to my old Black and Decker.I am a seamster and have seen an improvement in my work since I began setting stitches and pressing seams with the Advancer Iron. The burst of steam feature knocks out tough wrinkles and is really helpful with stubborn seams.It is not heavy, but it is heavier than my previous irons, so it really makes pressing fabric easy.The narrow tip is a great feature!It fits like a dream in trouble places. I used it while constructing a coat and the narrow tip allowed access to the most difficult areas.

The one down side is the automatic shut off feature.It will shut off in 8 minutes if left vertically, in 30 seconds if left on its soleplate.I would prefer if this feature were optional.

The Advancer is formulated to work with tap water, not distilled.But for those of us with an excess of organic matter in our tap water, the tap water may be diluted with 50% bottled water (per the instructions) for excellent results.

Yamata GSI8800 heavy duty commercial iron Review

I'm picky about how an iron/steam generator/gravity iron works & this one doesn't work very good.This gravity iron produces half the steam that my Pacific did.I've used it for a few days, so I'm hoping there's an air bubble in the line rather than permanent skimpy steam.The water line should be longer; it won't reach to the end of my board.The warning light showing that the iron is on is on the back of the iron rather than the side.The heat level indicator is not readily visible as it is a indentation on the black plastic; a dot of red on the plastic would be better.The "control" for shutting off water from the bottle is a piece of plastic junk that doesn't stop the water instead of a screw.

All in all, it's better than a traditional iron, but if it doesn't start producing more steam, I'll replace it.Cheaper wasn't better this time.

2-23-09:I'm editing the review to add a new note:the plastic tubing between the water bottle and the iron is not heat resistant like my other gravity iron.The tubing has touched the iron while I was using it & has started to melt.

I am getting more steam--I probably had a few air bubbles in the tube, but the steam isn't as heavy as my Pacific.

Tobi Steamer Review

I got my robi in the mail yesterday and decided to try it out on 3 pairs of dress shirts and slacks. It took me 30 minutes to get 1 of my shirts to the level of acceptable (but not iron quality). I understand that it will never be iron quality, but this product is a hazard.

*The stand is clumsy and un-balanced
*The steamer does not work on creased wrinkles
*The hose has to be completely uncoiled for the steam to come out
*The unit leaks if you open the water release valve for full steam
*The unit might-as-well not even have wheels on it, cause they don't help - I ended up just using the shoulder strap.

This product is a piece of you know what. I wouldn't have it any where near children or pets. I am sending it back today, but I do get to keep the travel steamer, which is good to have regardless of how fast it works. I hope Dyson finds a reason to engineer one of these.

Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron Review

The Professional label on this product is a big misnomer.

Ask frequent sewers and quilters what they hated the most about the last iron they replaced and they will almost invariably refer to leaking and the auto-shutoff feature if present.Typically, they press seams as a batch and go back to sewing... only to return to a iron that has shut off and requires a reheating cycle.

The auto-shutoff on this model makes it poorly suited for the sewing room where the 'professional' label should apply.

This (and other) Rowenta iron produces good steam and can burst steam to a certain extent.However, usually between 6 months and 1.5 yrs, Rowentas begin to drip.The valve design just doesn't hold up to water hardness that long. Failure number two.

For garment sewers and quilters, a professional system with a separate water boiler (tank) works far better:
* won't shut off on you
* since the iron doesn't make the steam (the boiler does), the sole doesn't have the 'hot spot' where household irons drip the water to make steam, which tends to scorch fabrics
* true professional models have a thicker sole which will maintain a more even temperature (still without the hot spot)

I teach sewing classes (garment, home dec, totes, etc.) and have completely walked away from household iron designs like this one.You will not see this type of iron in a commercial workshop.Noone there would have the time to wait for the iron to get hot again every time you've been away from it.

This iron is a better than average housesold model, designed for 'ironing' your laundry and not for pressing in a sewing room.

For general ironing duty (like laundry), check out the T-Fal 1759 Ultraglide Diffusion Iron for about half the price.My t-fal irons (i've had 2) have outlasted my Rowenta iron, with just as good a performance and with the advantage of the ultraglide sole, a ceramic-like sole coating that does not scratch, evenover metal zippers (the stainless steal sole on the rowenta WILL scratch over metal zipper)

Sunbeam 4267 Professional Iron, White and Blue Review

Wow, this is a great little appliance!I've had mine now for a little over a month and love it.The first time I got it out, after finishing the recent laundry, I was pulling more clothes out of the closet just to continue using it.(I know, I couldn't believe it myself).

The Sunbeam Professional iron is a nice weight, making ironing a much smoother and less labor-intensive task than my old, lighter weight cheapo model.At risk of sounding like a commercial, the clothes almost iron themselves.My model has the Teflon soleplate and so far, I see no problems with it.Having had to deal with my previous iron melting (ACK!) fabrics and the residue sticking to the plate, this was one of my concerns when doing research prior to making a purchase.My Sunbeam glides effortlessly over anything I've ironed to date.

I was intrigued with the idea of digital controls, as well as unsure of quite what to expect.They are simple to use, with just a + or - light-touch button to move up or down to select the fabric you intend to iron.My one complaint so far is that this menu is somewhat small and difficult to see, at least for my 50+ year old eyes.A lighted display would help.

I like the steam this iron puts out.A handy lever allows you to select light or heavy steam, spray mist, or dry ironing. It also has a burst of steam button, and a cleaning button. If you follow the directions, allowing it to heat adequately before ironing, it does not drip. I've not had an opportunity to use the vertical steam option but with the stellar horizontal performance of the iron, would assume it to be satisfactory, at least.

A complimentary plastic cup to fill the reservoir is included, and works quite well. Impatience results in spilling, as one might expect.The see-through plastic reservoir is a nice feature I did not realize how much I would appreciate.

In summary, short of having someone else do your ironing, the Sunbeam Professional Iron makes the task of ironing a pleasure.I highly recommend it, as well as Amazon as a vendor.I've never been disappointed with anything I've purchased through Amazon. Contrarily, I've been pleasantly surprised with the fast shipping and customer satisfaction concern.I really appreciate the customer reviews when doing my research as well.I hope this one helps!March '07-Still lovin' it!We travel rather frequently and my husband has commented about how poor the irons are in the hotels in comparison...so you MUST KNOW it has to be impressive! Hamilton Beach 14977 Ham Beach Chr. Body Iron Stai Review

I recently was in the market for a new iron when my Rowenta died after 5 years of almost daily faithful service. I didn't want to fork out $80+ dollars for another iron, so- I did some research, and decided on this Hamilton Beach model as being an acceptable replacement. Ugh! I returned two of these to the store in less than a week. The first one had a very loose setting dial and made a weird rattling sound right out of the box - I didn't even bother to turn it on. I exchanged it for another one which I insisted on opening at the customer service desk to inspect before bringing it home. The dial was securely fitted and no rattles on the handle of this second one - so home again , home again to finally iron jiggedy - jig! THIS iron moaned and hissed profusely - scorched my cotton blend shirt on the poly setting, and dripped water everywhere on it's maiden voyage down my ironing board. Also, the burst of steam mode was weak and ineffective.Maybe I'm just spoiled after owning a Rowenta - but, I'm ready to go by another one tonite! Adios, Hamilton B !

Conair GS10RHR Deluxe Fabric Steamer Review

i have a lot of experience with steamers over the years - mine as well as others used in stores. stupid me, then, for not realizing that you get what you pay for. my jiffy steamer finally died after nine years, but it served me well. it is a machine of substance, solid parts, very stable. trust me - you don't want to scrimp when it comes to working with a device designed to produce streams of hot steam! i foolishly tried to save some money by getting the conair gs10rh, and i'm returning it immediately. the well into which the telescoping pole sits is just about 1 inch deep - not deep enough to keep the pole stable. the brackets to hold the telescoped parts extended aren't firm - any heavy jacket will make them slide. the housing itself is amazingly lightweight; i thought that was a good thing, but now i know why the jiffy steamer's housing seems like it weighs a ton - you really do want the unit to be solidly anchored. handling a steamer is a serious matter. don't take on unnecessary risk by getting an inexpensive, poorly designed, lightweight steamer like the conair. spend the extra money for the product that has been the standard bearer for years: jiffy. you won't regret it. and even though mine died after nine years, i have no regrets, and now i'll do the right thing and get another.
